082807 Brian Leddy. He wouldn't say how, all he would say is "I lost it in a bar fight at the Silver Stallion". He told me this as he popped out the small piece of plastic that protects the area where a fully functioning eyeball used to be. ..That same eyeball is what guided him during his time in the Persian Gulf War only 17 years ago..."My name is on the monument over there. Wanna go see it?" he asks, pointing to the Veterans Monument at the courthouse, alcohol heavy on his breath...As we walk past the crowds watching the nightly Indian dances he tells me about his wife, who passed away, and of his two daughters, of which he is very proud of. One is in college the other works in South Carolina. ..Walking up to the monument he pulls out a driver's license to show me his name and points to the same name on the monument. After a moment of quiet reflection he turns to the flag and salutes. ..Sitting down he then begins talking about what it means to him to be a veteran. The tears well up in his eyes, and speech becomes difficult. He tells me the story of how he first learned of his name on the monument. .."One day I was walking through the park, and I sat down to rest," he says. "I looked over and saw the Congressional Medal of Honor, then I looked the other way and I saw my name right there," he says pointing again..."You know what? I'm a veteran, and look where I'm at now. I'm in the ghetto," he says finally. ..I am unsure of what to say. I can only thank him for his service to our country. .."My name is Nathanial Guerito Hesuse. I'm from Neegizii, and I'm a Navajo," he says proudly..
