Add to Cart Add to Lightbox DownloadFour Windows Cave in the Big Tubes Lava Area in of El Malpais National Monument and Recreation Area is just one of many caves that formed when lava beneath the surface cooled slower than that on top, causing it to collapse. The rugged area is home to many other cave including Big Skylight Cave, Junction Cave, Xenolith Cave, and Braided Cave. Many of the caves are relatively easily accessible and easy to explore while others offer more of a challenge. Four Windows has a relatively smooth surface due to the nature of the collapse and is easy to explore.
